Kenny Loggins is a famous musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter who, in addition to released albums, has been praised for his songwriting skills, especially those he made for use as movie soundtracks. As a testament to his work, his song “Footloose” which was recorded as one of the soundtracks for the 1984 film of the same name earned an Oscar nomination. Who is Kenny Loggins?

Kenneth Clark Loggins was born in Everett, Washington on January 7, 1948. His father George Loggins worked as a salesman while his mother, Lina (née Massie) was a homemaker caring for her children. He also has three brothers of which he is the youngest. As a child, his family resided in Detroit, then moved to Seattle before ending up in the Alhambra in California. For his education, Kenny Loggins was a student at San Gabriel Mission High School and in 1966 he graduated. Soon after, he initiated the formation of his first band, Second Portion, through which three singles were released between 1968 and 1969 via Viva Records.

In 1969, he started working with the American psychedelic rock band called, Electric Prunes. He later lent his songwriting skills to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, for whom he wrote four songs. The band included all four songs from their album titled Uncle Charlie and His Dog Teddy. Between 1972 and 1977 he had his own group called “Loggins and Messina” in which seven albums were released. His songwriting prowess came to life after going solo and writing soundtracks for different hit movies including ‘Footloose’which earned him an Oscar nomination. He is also the one who wrote the soundtrack for the 1976 film, A Star is Born.

Crosby – the oldest of his children, is also a musical artist. He released his first CD called ‘We’re All Going Home’ in 2007. Prior to his divorce from his first wife, Eva, Kenny met Julia Cooper (a colon therapist) in 1982 when he had some health complications. Since she was treating him at the time, the couple quickly bonded. Also, at the time they met, both parties were unhappy with their marriage and remained close friends until they were both divorced from their spouses. In July 1992, Kenny Loggins and Julia got married. They also had two children together, Lukas was born in 1993 and Hana arrived in 1997. In 2004, Kenny and Julia’s union ended in divorce.

Dead or alive?

News hit social media on January 13, 2019 that the veteran musician had passed away. Details which received more than a million likes and messages of condolence on a Facebook page indicate that Kenny Loggings died in the early hours of Sunday around 11:00 a.m. ET. It was, however, discovered to be one of those celebrity death hoaxes that seem to be on the rise. So Kenny Loggin is alive and well and still touring giving his fans the music they love and it looks like he’ll be around for many more years to come.
