Who Can Enter the Transfer Portal?

Under current rules, entry into the NCAA Transfer Portal is required for any student-athletes to be permissibly contacted or to contact other schools about transfer opportunities. They still must qualify for a transfer exception and be academically eligible at their new school to compete immediately.

Any player with remaining eligibility can enter the transfer portal, but rules remain intact for multiple entries, timeframes, and other factors.

When Can Athletes Enter the Transfer Portal?

Any athlete wanting to enter their name into the transfer portal must give notice to the NCAA. While athletes can announce their intentions to transfer at any time, undergraduate transfer portal athletes won’t be officially announced in the portal until the academic season’s window opens.
